Can't see my avatar in iMessage

In IMessage (on Mountain Lion) see all assigned faces. Only my avatar has no associated image even set my profile picture. Can this be set somewhere somehow?

HI,

The iPad will take your Pic from your own Address Card which should be syncing across all devices via the System Preferences > iCloud Settings.

If your Contacts > My card item has a Pic then this should sync (if Contacts is allowed to Sync) and you will have a pic messages will use.

The iPhone tends not to display pics to save space.

HI,

Sorry, my fault.

I was referring to the Address Card of the Mac User logged in on the Mac where the Card with the Head and Shoulders icon is referred to as the My Card.

Checking on my Contacts on my iPhone the Head and Shoulders icon still shows.

In the Contacts app on the Mac the Card Menu has an option to "Make this My Card".

The Pic in this Card should sync (if you are syncing via iCloud) to your iPhone and iPad.

Hi,

Yes.

The iMessages account uses the Pic from your other Buddy Lists

In Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts enable the Bonjour account if you don't have an AIM or Jabber account.

Now in the window Menu you should have a line saying Buddies with CMD + 1 as the keystrokes

Use this to display the Buddy list

Click the current Buddy Pic (It is probably now displaying the Pic in your My Card from the Contacts (formerly the Address Book) list)

The "Recents" as in this pic are pulled from Messages, The Contacts > My Card and the User Account pic (System Preferences > Users and Groups).

Defaults are the iChat icons and the User Account pics.

Faces pulls your own face from those listed in iPhoto.

Camera allows you to take a Snapshot.

You may find that from Set up of your Mac you chose a Mac User Pic.

This will have been added as the default to the Contacts > My card and later pulled to Messages.

All three can in fact be different.

Hi,

In iTunes click the icon for the iPhone or the button top right depending on your version.

You should then be able to access Info and see what is being synced.

For Contacts mine says iCloud is handling it (but that can be turned Off)

There are then buttons to "Sync Now"

HI,

I think that was partly my fault.

I am looking at iTunes on the Mac that shows my iPhone (or my iPad when that is plugged in) at the button that appears top right like in the pic.

That leads me on to the sync options.

On mine it says Contacts is being handled by iCloud.

No problem. But my problem is I am not syncing via icloud. I do all my syncing via itunes.

Is there a way to sync contact using iTunes? Like I said, my buddies avatars show up (that I choose and put in my contacts book...but..the one I put for myself doesn't show up at all!) Maybe it can't be done using iTunes.

I'm not ready for iCloud..just yet 🙂 Thanks, Ralph 😀

I don't even see "devices" on the side, there is no list like there used to be. I think I have to figure out the new itunes...I can see the apps and music on my iPad 2, but I can't actually see things the way they used to look. It's all different.

There used to be a list if you will, on the left side. There is none. In that list it would say devices, music, photos and so on. It's not there. I have a feeling I must learn this new itunes thing that they changed.

I appreciate your help, though.

Can't see my avatar in iMessage
