I created a second iphoto folder on a separate portable hard drive and moved my holiday snaps into it to give me more space on my mac hard drive, but when trying to get some photos for my screen saver the iphoto library is greyed out and I can't select it. Is there a way to select it or change it from being greyed out?

How do I find the format? Sorry real novice!
Select the disk icon and go File -> Get Info

Can you describe the steps you're using to set up the screensaver?
Select system preferences in the dock. Desktop and screensaver, choose folder, jenniferprice/pictures/iphoto library.
I have been able to do it this way in the past, as it was my last holiday photos on the screen saver prior to being moved. I understand that as they are on a separate hard drive I can't access them but don't understand why iphoto is greyed out. There isn't another copy of iphoto on this hard drive.
I can get photos on pictures folder (selected same as above) but this just selects random photos.

Don't choose Folder.
Instead, click on the + at the bottom and look for the Media heading on your left. Select iPhoto there.
Tried this, I only get the + sign on the desktop not screen saver, but when I went to media/photos it came up with a message 'open iphoto 5 or later to see photos from your photo library in this list'.
Just tried again to get iphoto library via screensaver (still greyed out) but now my iphoto events are showing under the option, choose folder? Not sure why this has just happened, maybe because I was opening iphoto etc. has managed to make a connection.
