There is no need for a serial with the version of Logic Pro downloaded from the App Store...
It uses your Apple ID instead when you purchase it.
Is Logic asking for a serial?
If so, this means you had an earlier version of Logic installed on your laptop at some point or... you restored from a backup of a computer that had Logic installed.
If this is the case then see this thread for info on how to remove the existing serial number..

The laptop is fresh out of the box, and never had logic on it ever.
Logic is asking for the serial number for registration I tried use laptop serial number but that never worked

I tried to use log on pass word but that never worked. and the line states serial number
Did you use Migration Assistant to transfer files from an older computer?
No the only things that I have done to this laptop is intial set up, downloaded updateds, downloaded garageband updates. then I purchased the Logic app and downloaded the files. that is all.
Okay.. then call Apple Tech Support and ask for their help as this is not normal behavior... The serial code was only needed with versions of Logic Pro installed from DVDs... or being upgraded from earlier versions. Since the App Store version was released, serials were no longer used...
I have downloaded / installed Logic Pro many times from the App Store and it has never asked for a serial... so Ihave to assume something weird is going on here and only a call to Apple will be able to resolve it..

One last thing.... (Though I know you didn't mention this in the list of things you have done so far...)
You haven't installed any 3rd party AU plugins have you?
If so it could be asking for the serial number for one of those....
I contacted Apple for issue and was told that this has been known to happen . they recommended that I remove the program and reinstall. the tech. thinks that my internet speed may have something to do with the problem as I have a slower connection (as with the 3 hour plus download some file may have had a problem). I removed the program and drove into town and downloaded at a free wifi spot and problem seems to be fixed

Hopefully you won't have an issue when you download the additional content.. (Logic Menu Bar...Logic Pro/Download Additional Content) as this has been known to 'trip up' those with slower connections...

I just down loaded Logic Pro 9 on my new laptop but have not got any licence number to register program. where do I find this number no code was sent to email, I bought the download from apple online?
