How to Get Apps From the App Store Without a Credit Card

http://ipadhelp.com/ipad-help/how-to-get-free-apps-from-the-app-store-without-a- credit-card/

Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534

If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

First I'd like to let you know that Apple does not require you to give credit card information to get free apps for your Apple device(s), they just don't explain some of the issues that can occur and how to fix them very well. I will be happy to explain them as I had to discover the fix for this issue on my own.

I had this exact same problem with the new iPhone I bought on 1/4/13. The walk through they provide on how to do this is not very useful because it fails to explain that if you are already having the problem of not getting the "None" payment option with an Apple ID then you will need to create a completely new Apple ID, unless you first are willing to give out your CC information and then go back in afterwards to delete it. I'm really skeptical about my personal information so that doesn't work for me. Here's how you can do this without needed to go around in circles.

#1 If your current or soon to be "old" Apple ID is not providing the option for "None" as a payment option then you need to make a brand new one.

#2 IMPORTANT STEP!! - You will need to use an email address that has not already been used for anything related to a previous Apple ID. You might need to make a brand new email address. I had to do this 6 times before I realized that you have to create an Apple ID through iTunes or it won’t give you the None payment option. It won’t work if you are just creating it through one of the several other methods to make an Apple ID.

You MUST make your Apple ID through iTunes, or the Nonepayment option will not be available. Also the email address you use while creating the new Apple ID cannotbe used with apre-existing, or previous Apple ID.

#3 OK, now with your new email address created, Open iTunes, then open iTunes Store (upper right corner of iTunes).

#4 Click on App Store (upper center of screen).

#5 Scroll down the screen page until you see Top Free Apps on the right side.

#6 Choose any one of the FREE apps.

#7 You should either get the option to create a new Apple ID box, either that, or it will pop up with some kind of disclaimer 1st and then it does the create new Apple ID, I can't remember which comes first.

Either way just create a new Apple ID (using the new email address you just made) once it gives you the option to. When you get to the page that looks like the payment page the "None" payment option will finally be available.

Note: You will still have to fill out the information on the payment page. As long as you choose the "None" option it will not request any credit card information.

#8 You will be sent a confirmation email to the new email account. Just follow through with whatever it tells you and viola now you can use your Apple Device.

What a pain in the keester, eh?

Later on you can go back in and change account information for the Apple ID doing the following:

(Again, this is after you are finished creating the Apple ID with the “None” payment option)

#1 Go to the iTunes Store page. Click 'Account' in the list at the right. Log in with your just barely created Apple ID.

#2 Click the 'Edit Account Info' button at top right. In the 'Email address' field change the address to the new one you want the account to be associated with. Click 'Done' at bottom right.

#3 Now you log in just as before, using the same Apple ID, but any communications from the iTunes Store will go to your new email address.
