What have you tried?
This means that you should restore your ipod.
1. disconnect the iPod from the computer, and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see "Slide to Power Off." Move the slider, and wait for the iPod to shut down. Then, hold the Home button down WHILE you are connecting the USB cable back to the computer (push down Home button, plug in USB, release Home button when you see the Apple logo). Then, iTunes should state that it's detected an iPod in recovery mode and allow you to restore. (DID NOT WORK)
2. tried holding down the on/off switch and the home button for about 10 seconds? (DID NOT WORK)
3. plug in your ipod and hold the home button for 5 seconds After 5 seconds continue holding home and power for 10 seconds after 10 seconds release JUST POWER and hold home for 30 seconds. iPod should connect in DFU. (DID NOT WORK)
Nothing has worked so far.
Let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try again.
for some reason it will not fully drain. I have let it sit a week and it will not drain. I will try it again and let you know what happens. This happened once before and I let it drain I was able to get into it. What I do not understand is that I have not downloaded any security system, just games. I think the last one I tried to download was Bubble Safari but my Ipod is too old, I have the touch without the camera.
Sometimes problems like that are due t a software glitch/loop and sometimes by a hardware problem.
I finally fixed my IPod, but I lost everyhing. Now I can not get the items I had. It is telling me that I need 4.3, but it is not available when I check for updates. So I can not get any of my previous APPS. I hate this stupid thing. That is why I do not fool with Apple/Mac junk.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

I currently have 4.2.1 but everything I try to reinstall says I need 4.3 or 5. I am going to throw this thing away. I am very angry and super dissatisfied. When I check Itunes it says the stupid ipod is up to date and the next check with not be until 1-10-2013.
You have a 2G iPod and it can only go to 4.2.1. Since there has not been an update for the 2G for over two years I doubt there will be another one.
Why was I able to get all those apps before? I just got the ipod last year. I did not have any problems getting Apps. What is different?
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
My Ipod touch is 3G. Does this apply to them as well?
I give up. I will never purchase any Apple products again. This IPod is good for nothing.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1. On the outside the 2G looks the same as the 3G. Many users think they have a 3G when they only have a 2G.
