1. disconnect the iPod from the computer, and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see "Slide to Power Off." Move the slider, and wait for the iPod to shut down. Then, hold the Home button down WHILE you are connecting the USB cable back to the computer (push down Home button, plug in USB, release Home button when you see the Apple logo). Then, iTunes should state that it's detected an iPod in recovery mode and allow you to restore. (DID NOT WORK)

2. tried holding down the on/off switch and the home button for about 10 seconds? (DID NOT WORK)

3. plug in your ipod and hold the home button for 5 seconds After 5 seconds continue holding home and power for 10 seconds after 10 seconds release JUST POWER and hold home for 30 seconds. iPod should connect in DFU. (DID NOT WORK)

Nothing has worked so far.

for some reason it will not fully drain. I have let it sit a week and it will not drain. I will try it again and let you know what happens. This happened once before and I let it drain I was able to get into it. What I do not understand is that I have not downloaded any security system, just games. I think the last one I tried to download was Bubble Safari but my Ipod is too old, I have the touch without the camera.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1. On the outside the 2G looks the same as the 3G. Many users think they have a 3G when they only have a 2G.

Identifying iPod models

iPod touch (3rd generation)

iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.

The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
