Hello, I am trying to set up an International Account.

I was given this link to set up an International Account in order to download Apps that are not available at the US Store where I currently have an account. I cannot find a way to set up an Int'l Account on this site...only how to set up an initial account. Help Please!!

This contradicts sports network Help where the advice was given. Reason, I am trying to download a required App ESPN Player which is necessary to play Sporting Events; namely College Football! This App is not available in the US Store (oddly enough) and I cannot access the UK or UAE Stores where apparently (oddly enough) this App is available.

HELP!! I am missing the entire College Football Bowl Season here in Dubai!!

Then that "help" was wrong. Again, you are only allowed to use the iTunes Store of the country in which you are physically present.

WatchESPN is, as James said, available in the US iTunes Store, but he is correct that you need an appropriate TV service to watch live content. And again, you cannot use the US nor UK iTunes Stores unless you go to the applicable country. And I see no "ESPN Player" app available in the UAE iTunes Store. This is due to ESPN's choice (or more likely their licensing agreements with the NCAA and the colleges).

You may just have to depend on non-live information such as the ESPN College Football app, which is available in the UAE store, unless you can find another service that is available in the UAE and provides live virewing.

Ok, it seems the community is confused. Let me attempt to clarify.

I am an American living in UAE, but my iTunes account is with the US Store, so I have full rights/access to the US Apps Store.

I downloaded an App called WatchESPN, but it will not work because it requires a valid US-based cable provider (however there is an option called "don't have a provier" and it worked for me once on my laptop, but never again).

So, a month or so ago, I recived an email from ESPN announcing a new App, called ESPNPlayer designed for iPAD users to watch live and archived sports. I logged onto ESPN, selected and paid for a package, and the confirmation email included a link the the Apple Apps Store to download ESPNPlayer. I clicked on the link and immediately i recieved a notice on my iPAD "App not available in US store may we switch you to UK store?", I say "OK"....then I cannot download the App because I "do not have an account at this store..."

I contacted ESPN...they replied..."simply created an 'international account' at the following link..." THIS IS WHERE I GOT STUCK AND ASK ALL OF YOU FOR HELP.

Subsequently, I have gone to the Dubai, UAE Apple Store and a nice young man logged onto my iPAD with his Apple ID and was able to find and download ESPNPlay App from the UAE App Store onto my iPAD!! I was very happy; however he warned me to get the App in my own name so I can take advantage of future updates to the App...understood. Now I am back to my original quesiont "how do I set up an International Account?" that someone at ESPN has stated can be done. Why would ESPN promote an App, designed specifically for an American Sport network to watch American sports and NOT understand that Americans living abroad (who most likely would need the App) cannot access??? This simply does NOT make sense.

One final note...I went home, launch the ESPNPlayer App...it opened as expected. I selected an archived College Football game that I missed live...the App stated "please wait, your event will start momentarily..." I waited for 40 minutes all the while the dashboard timeline of the event seemed to be moving along; however NO video and NO Audio of the event! aaahhhhhhggggggg!!! Can you believe this??

I contacted ESPN yet again, who said the following; "Reset your iPAD network device settings, turn off Wifi, turn off location services, and hard-exit the App and restart..."..."restart Wifi, location services, relaunch App and check for video/audio...let me know if this resolves your issue" I am at work now, so will try tonight...

Guys this seems like a real App, with a real problem, that I need some collective help to resolve. I still believe that somehow there must be a way for me to access and download my own copy of this App for future use...assuming I can get it to work.

thanks for all of you help...

I am not going to try to address everything in your post, but will comment on a couple of salient issues:

  • I've been using Apple products and services for years, including an Apple ID. I have never heard of an "International Account", nor can I find anything on Apple's website.
  • Pardon the editorializing, but ESPN is BARELY an authority in the field of sports, much less Apple and iOS functions. I would seriously NOT consider them to be the last word on how Apple IDs work.
  • In the US, ESPN programming via iOS apps is generally tied to specific cable or satellite services (i.e. you have to get ESPN via one of those services - such as Time Warner, Dish, DirectTV - in order to use an app to view live programming). Its not surprising there is an app available for live steaming outside of the Us that is not available in the US.
  • The location of your iTunes and App store is directly tied to your Apple ID and the address and credit card associated with it.

The Community is not confused, just misinformed. You said nothing about having a US-based iTunes Store account. It's really irrelevant, though. You do not have rights to use the US iTunes Store from the UAE even if the app were availble in the US, which it is not. In fact, the terms of use of the iTunes Store expressly prohibit you from even attempting to use the US iTunes Store from other countries. Quoting from the terms:

The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance

I have gone to the Dubai, UAE Apple Storea nice young man logged onto my iPAD with his Apple ID and was able to find and download ESPNPlay App from the UAE App Store onto my iPAD!!

Apple has no stores of their own in the UAE, and I would not trust any dealer employee not to quite happily violate the terms of the iTunes Store and download the app from some other country. Again, I can find no such app in the UAE iTunes Store. ESPN says only that the app is available in the "Middle East" but doesn't specify which countries. So it may well not include the UAE.

You might be able to view games via their web site:

http://www.espnplayer.com

with an appropriate subscription, but it's not clear from their terms. Nor am I sure what format they use; if it's Flash, you may be able to get it to work with a browser/service such as Skyfire or Puffin, though it's not guaranteed. You'll just have to try it.

Regards.
