HELP ipod screen isnt working

when i try to touch slide to unlock it doesnt let me touch it, it just sits there i cant get on my ipod to play games or any thing i usually do on it do i need to go to an apple store i just got it on christmas it has only been a week i havent dropped it or put it in water i have taken good care of it this is really fustrating..PLEASE HELP
