Can I burn To DVD+R?

Can I burn To DVD+R?

I've seen a lot on this topic, but none hits my issue squarely:

I have a 2003 G5 with a Sony SuperDrive. Profiler says "DVD-RW" as the drive type.

Can I write to DVD+R media at all? (I got some by mistake.)

G5 1.8, PB G-4; G3, Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Open a Terminal Window:

drutil info

All burnable types of media will be listed.

Interesting!

DVD+R is listed.

I guess I'm back to the dilemma of deciding whether my iMovie DVD will play better and more often on people's standalone DVD machine. That question has been answered in this forum: Marginally better luck with DVD-R, particularly if they have older models.

Any advantage to DVD+R for movies made with iMovie and burned in iDVD?

afaik - no, besides the fact that older releases of iDVD might refuse to burn +R

The media brand you're using also has an effect on playback compatibility. Which brand are you using?

Burn speed is another area that can affect compatibility. If you're burning directly from iDVD, you won't be able to change it. A third-party burning program such as Toast is needed instead.

I just swapped out the DVD+Rs for an equivalent batch of DVD-Rs. Both times, I got Verbatim. I've had good luck with CDs from them, and others on the boards seem to like them too.

I will be burning from iDVD, and I don't think I'll be in any rush.

Yep, Verbatim's a good brand. TDK and Maxell are two other top notch brands that are relatively easy to find in retail stores as well, if you ever need a different brand.
