problems with safari?

I cannot use Safari as I cannot download or watch any video. My email was hacked several months ago and I was notified by my internet provider that my email was being used for pishing.

I downloaded norton anti-virus and it just screwed up my entire system. Most other programs are back working okay but Safari is still for a practical purposes is totally unusable.

Any thoughts, I did purcase a new drive, formatted it and tried a clen install of mountain lion. It worked great until I used time machine then it became as bad as my other drive. I have a large amount of business mail that I must keep and was unable to find a way to use the mail restore with time machine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary

My software is upto date with Mountain Lion

Are you sure you've completely removed Norton according to the developer's instructions?

Is your ISP Comcast, by any chance? I got an email that said that I was sending out garbage, and they wanted me to download their "free" Norton. Because of years participating here, I knew that was bogus.

Of course Norton screwed your entire system. That's what it's best at doing.

Don't you think your Time Machine backup had the Norton on it?

Maybe make backups justt of your really important stuff (Photos, Mail, Music, Doctuments), and then erase that drive, install ML, and then add back your essentials as noted above.
