my ipod has the version ios 4.2 but i wont update to ios 5 or 6 and says my version is the latest. i dont know how to get this new update and its really stressing because i cant download any apps because they need ios 6, can anyone help

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.
