I sync my ipod touch and my Mac laptop using the usb connection. Calendar and Contacts always sync perfectly, but Notes never syncs. How can I get Notes to sync without using the cloud?

I have to ask myself why the syncing of notes is no longer supported except with IMAP or iCloud. This seems a step backward, and I am not entirely sure that I would have upgraded to Lion if I had been aware of this "Feature" I find it absurd, and a sad comment about Apple, that Evernote, a second party note app, syncs with no problems, yet the Apple app will not.
How can you synch "Notes" between and IPod Touch running 6.0.1 and a Mac laptop running 10.8.2 without using the cloud? I like to sync directly using the usb, but Notes never seems to sync.
