My iphone 4s speakers not working, coming up with headphone message

My iphone 4s speakers not working, coming up with the message that the headphones are in but nothing in the jack. But when I go and select a new ringtone it plays. Sound is fine when I do plug headphones in but cannot hear calls unless on speakerphone.
