why won't 11.0.1 or the iOS 6.0.1 upgrade in vista

Every time it tells me it needs to update, I log in and it downloads 11.0.1 or the iOS 6.0.1, gets through downloading and goes to install and then it says it can't and backs out. I have plenty of memory so I am wondering if it can't download with Vista or am I missing something somewhere?
