new hard drive isn't recognized

I dropped my Macbook (2006 13" 10.4 ) and yes, as per Springboard Media, they said the hard drive needed to be replaced. I went to get one, I purchased a WD Blue Notebook hard drive 500GB Sata. I am not an expert, I am literally going on everything from what people are telling me. I tried to research this topic so many times now...

The hard drive was installed the right way, I can hear it processing and working. I think it's being read in the disk utility, but the DU will not let me partition it and it seems as it is not recognized. But it does show "3.6 TB WDC WD5000BPVT-00HXZTC Media" in the disk description. Where do I go from here?

Please help me!

Return the drive to wherever it was purchased. Get a non-Blue, non-Green regular old hard drive. The interface speed can not be greater than 3.0 Gb/s althouigh 1.5 Gb/s is more closely matched to what the computer interface supports. Try OWC for suitable drives and installation tutorials. Stick to SATA I or SATA II drives.
