I cracked my new iPad mini's screen! Help?

I just got my new iPad mini as a Christmas present but my little brother dropped it and the screen cracked. It is still working and I don't think the LCD is broken but I need to get it fixed. I don't have AppleCare or a warranty with it because the person who gave it to me didn't add it. Do you think they'll be able to give me it to me after it was broken? Or do they have a different service to repair it? Also, please add the cost, as I do not have much money.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

iPad model Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
iPad mini $219
iPad 3rd, 4th generation $299
iPad 2, iPad $249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

My ipad got ghost pixels so I did the 249 ipad fix and now it's been just a couple months and my screen is acting up. when the battery gets to 70 or if I'm on it for more then some time the screen becomes non responsive. I can't unlock it to use it or anything so I just want to know if because it has not been the year since I made the trade do I have any form of coverage or would I have to spend another 249 to fix it?
