Can you guys help me on how to charge my 2012 macbook pro.

I need help on how to charge my Macbook Pro (Mid-2012). I'm new to the Mac environment. I just bought this mac last december 30. And I'm really impress on the mac. especially on the specs of macbook pro but im really curious about the battery of macbook pro like how to charge it and how to maintain it nice and long lasting i saw some articles including apple that they said that i need to calibrate or cycle charge. What do i need to do? cycle charge or calibrate? but i saw some articles that they said i should'nt do a calibrate because macbook pro 2012 is pre-calibrated. and i don't really get the cycle charge, can you guys really explain how to do a cycle charge and when? every week, every month or every day? and what percentage do i need to cycle charge? 25%, 50%, 75% or what? Can i charge it overnight? can i leave it charge for 9 or 15 hours because I'm to going to school and i didn't bring it to school? Can i use it while charging? can i use it while charging for the whole day? when do i need to unplugged it? What do you thing guys do i really need to calibrate my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro? And I saw this stats on a app called Battery Health and I saw my battery health it's 98.6% (5692 mAH) from the original (5770), when i saw this i panicked i thought i messed up my battery because it got this stats in just 3 days after i bought it. User uploaded file I really need to know these answers. I really need help. I wish my co-apple users answer my questions and give me some tips. THANKS TO ALL IN ADVANCE.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I wouldn't freak out too much about the stats on a new laptop. It takes time to gather enough data points for a reliable battery estimate. You might even see the battery health number fluctuate upwards at times, especially in the beginning.

Apple uses the same batteries as everyone else. Just use the ground rules for lithium-ion batteries. Avoid deep discharges. Keep it cool. That's really all you have to do. Do what it says in these tech notes.

A cycle charge is to charge the battery and use your computer with the battery until the battery runs out. That's a cycle, and you should do it at least once a month to keep the battery life.

The battery will stop charging when it's full, so you don't have to worry about this. When the battery is full, the charger will show a green light.

It's completely normal that the battery health decreases with the use of the Mac. OS X will advise you when the battery must be replaced

What do you mean "That's the normal use you should give to your Mac"? The one that i said "I want to do is fully charge it and use it without the charger connected, can i do that everyday? " And what do you also mean "At least once a month, I recommend you to use the computer until the battery runs out, and then charge the battery" Is that a calibrating a battery? But some other user said that I shouldnt run my battery out, I should charge it on 20%. Is that true?

If you read the second link I posted, it gives more details about this. Lithium-ion batteries last longer with shallow, not deep, discharges. This means if you use it every day, draining the battery partially (maybe to 60-80%), and charge it back up to full, that's good. But if you use it every day draining it until the battery is completely empty, that's bad and will shorten battery life. That's why I keep it plugged in when near an outlet.

Refer to Table 2 in the Battery University link I posted: "Table 2: Cycle life as a function of depth of discharge. A partial discharge reduces stress and prolongs battery life."

But let's be realistic. If you cannot reach a power outlet for most of the day, then you have only so much control over your cycling pattern; use the battery as you need to get your work done, even if that means emptying it frequently. Simply budget for a potential battery replacement sooner than other users. Apple does provide a battery replacement service for a fee.

What if i do is drain it to like 45% then charge it up everyday, is it fine? Is it considered cycle charge?

As I understand it, a cycle is a complete trip to 100%. So if you drain to 45%, charge to 100%, drain to 45% the next day, and charge to 100%, you've done 0.9 cycles, not 2 cycles.

I disagree with clintonfrombirmingham that draining to 10% is "fine," because a 90% discharge should count as a deep discharge which is not recommended. But again, if you must get work done and can't get to an outlet, don't worry about it...get your work done.

I have another question. Can i charge it while the macbook is folded and sleep? im new to the mac!

It's no different than any other phone or PC laptop, you can charge it whether it's on or off, closed or open. Basically, you can connect the plug at any time. But it should charge faster if it's sleeping or shut down simply because all power can go straight to the battery.
