I have a 6th generation nano and it is not recognised by my laptop or itunes. I have tried every fix suggested by apple to no avail. My itunes library is intact but I obviously cannot add new songs etc. Other ipods are recognised immediately.

Care to share? Any of them mentioned in KB Article: iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows? If so, you will have no choice but to call iPod Tech support if still under warranty or have AppleCare and/or take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or AASP for repairs.
