Dashboard Question

WIth Mountain Lion my dashboard widgits appear in their own window, (to the left on the black matting), as opposed to on top of the current screen with my earlier OSX version. I push "f4". Is there a way to get the dashboard and its widgits to appear on top of the current webpage/doc/desktop? like in earlier OSx?
