public folder is not seen on network

imac with 10.6.8 > file sharing ON > User Public folder is shared folder with "everyone" permision set to read only

the public folder is not available as guest on the network. I've tried from a macbook pro with 10.8.2 and a macbook with 10.6.8

Also tried turning file sharing on/off and unsharing/resharing the public folder

I've not tried rebuilding permissions yet.

ideas?

FIXED.

i did not have "Allow guests to connect to shared folders" checked in the Guest Acount user settings.
