Q: uninstall itunes 11 and go back to 10.7

How to downgrade iTunes 11 to iTunes 10 in Mac OS X - PC Advisor

It would be less of a PITA to just make changes to iTunes 11 to make it look more familiar. Go to View > Show Sidebar and View > Show Status Bar.

I just went back to 10.7 today and it was a five minute job.  Itunes 11 is rubbish.

I wouldn't let my Mum try it but If you are a little computer savvy it's no big deal.

You need to download and install Pacifist.  Go to   http://www.charlessoft.com  and dowload the disk image

You don't uninstall itunes 11.  Pacifist will replace it with 10.7  You do not need AppZapper

Within your itunes folder are previous library files that you use to keep your playlists.  I almost posted a step by step instruction but it's worth hearing your opinion first on how confident you are at going through the procedure.  Rustyintegrale and Drew Reece explained to me how to do it and it was quite easy to follow.

If these instructions don't make sense to you then don't bother trying it.  Read them before doing anything and make sure you back up.  This forum is users only; you can't go to apple and complain about it if you mess something up.

Don't credit me for this, I got the help today from Rustyintegrale and Drew Reece.  I'm just putting it in one place.

1. Go to Music > iTunes > Previous iTunes Libraries and look for the most recently dated file ending with ".itl "  (see photo).   Copy that file on to your desktop.  You will need this later.

2. You need the itunes disk image.  Go to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4555356?start=945&tstart=60

3. You need to download and install Pacifist.  Go to   http://www.charlessoft.com  and dowload the disk image.   Install it in to your applications folder.

4.Open the 10.7 disk image and drag the "Install itunes" image in to your desktop.  Eject the disk image.

5.  Quit iTunes.  Open Pacifist and drop the "install itunes" image on to the Pacifist icon in your dock.

6. In the window that opens up select the top line "Content of install itunes" and select Install up in the top left hand corner.  The installation will begin.  When a dialogue box opens up select replace and check the box to not ask again.  If another dialogue box opens up, do the same thing.

7. Once finished, close Pacifist.  From finder go to Music folder > iTunes folder 

Delete the .xml file

Delete the .itl file

Drag the .itl file you saved to your desktop earlier in to the iTunes folder (the folder you are currently in).  Edit it's name so that it just reads "iTunes Library.itl"   This step is replacing your library data from before the upgrade to 11.

8.  Go to disk Utility and repair permissions then re-boot your mac.  Open itunes    Job done.

Lets not get too pis*sed off with Apple.  They still make one of the best home computers out there. 

This works!!! HOOZAHH!!! Back to iTunes 10.7!!!

If your a PC user you can find 10.7 eg. Here. (this one is 64bit).

Once youve uninstalled (rubbish) 11, install 10.7. Make a copy of the most recent library.itl file and rename it found in your itunes folder in' music'.

Boot your re installed old version holding shift.This will give you an option to choose a library as it will have said 'cant read newer library' when you first ran it! dont worry I managed to use my newer library this seemed to be a work around.

Hopefully from reading so many peoples disappointed comments Apple wont be too arrogant as to not see the opening here for a 'Classic' view for itunes inc the old album art displays etc.

by following your instructions, i've 'down'graded my old mac mini to 10.7.

no problem, worked like a dream, thanks!

but...

late in january my new iMac arrived. it's meant to replace my old mac mini.

but if i go to Music > iTunes.. there is no 'previous iTunes libraries' because my new iMac isn't old enough to have any 'previous'...

what do i do?!

Good question....   Might want to get a second opinion on this but I can't see why you wouldn't be able to copy the file over from your old machine.

it's a thought..!

anybody have any views on this - a second opinion would be reassuring

the reason i'm downgrading is because i want the quick easy to manage 10.7, so i don't really want to mess up my iMac and have to spend ages rebuilding it just to get there!

if no-one has any other views i'll try it in a few hours

Then if you have an empty iTunes 10.7 on your new machine copy the iTunes folder over from your old machine and paste it under music
