You can upgrade to Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard To upgrade, insert the DVD and the installer will appear, so follow the steps to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Make a backup before upgrading.
After upgrading, open Apple menu > Software Update to install the most recent version. You can't upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Lion because you have an Intel Core Duo, that isn't compatible with 64-bit OS X
