Ipod storage is not as much as it was supposed to be

I have one 8gb ipod touch. Its at 6.0.1 ios and am i not supposed to have full 8gb available? I have only 6.4gb available in total. I know 8gb is small but still...

Is there a way I can have whole 8gb to be available?

iPod touch, iOS 6.0.1

No. It is the same with most all devicea nd computers.

The Operating system takes up some space, then the reporting method, used by your computer as well accounts for the rest
