windows 7 virtual machine wont save display settings

I just bought a MacBook Pro Retina and installed Parallels 8.0 so I could run Windows 7. When I right click on the Windows side desktop to "personalize" my display settings, it always defaults to "custom size 199%" instead of the acutal small default. When I change it to the small or medium settings and hit apply, it logs me off. I then log back in and the display defaults right back to the custom size 199%. So my software programs that I am running, the fonts appear huge. Can anyone help me figure how to actually save the display settings on the Windows 7 side?
