Hi there,

 

I am trying to update a few programs like (Adobe Flash player 11.5), but when i try and install it its asking me for a password that i have unfortunetly forgotten

 

is there a way i can change this password without having to put in the old one in?

    If you're running Lion, you can reset your password from the Recovery Partition. Reboot holding down cmd-R until you see the Apple logo - then release the keys. From the Utilities menu, launch Terminal, and type

     

    resetpassword

     

    You will then be prompted which account you want to change the password for.

    Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) is the Mac's operating system. If you have a Mac that's new in the last couple of years, you should have either Lion or Mountain Lion (10.8) - the instructions above should work with either. You can tell what you have by clicking on the Apple menu at the top left of the screen and selecting About This Mac.
