does anyone know how to set up an old lineone.net email account on mail?

Ok, here goes ..........although I'm not very hopeful!

I've been happily using my old lineone.net account for years on my pc. It also works fautlessly on my iphone and ipad. I finally took the plunge and migrated to a mac - my new baby arrived today but I've spent 4 hours without success trying to configure mail to let me receive mail from my lineone.net account. My email provider is btinternet.

I've been using the following settings:

pop server: pop3.lineone.net

smtp server: mail.btinternet.com

I've even tried using thunderbird in case it was the apple mail that was causing a problem but that wouldn't work either.

I'm completely stuck!

Please help anyone. I've trawled the web looking for answers but nothing I've tried seems to work. I've double-checked all my passwords etc and they all work fine when I'm using outlook on my pc but the iMac is having none of it!

In desperation,

iMac newb, Paul.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Hi Paul, & a warm welcome! 🙂

Lineone

Loginusername@lineone.net
Incoming email (IMAP) imap.lineone.net
Incoming email (POP3)pop3.lineone.net
Outgoing email (SMTP)smtp.lineone.net

What port & Authentication are you using?

Can you login with your credentials in a Browser using the same info?

In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the exact message?

Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...

This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.

If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.

The receiving email ports are:

IMAP is port 143

IMAP-SSL is port 993

POP is port 110

POP-SSL is port 995

Outgoing ports are...

SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

Hi BDAqua - many thanks for replying. After many hours head scratching, I found out that my broadband server had changed their smtp protocols since my pc was set up - there was nothing wrong with the pop3 bit despite the set-up wizard saying that there was an error with my details (as you said in your reply, the password rejection can be confusing).

All sorted now - emails working and I've even imported 2 Gb of old emails from outlook on the pc to the mac using thunderbird - happy bunny!

Regards,

Paul
