Did I break it? (Semi-serious)

I moved and am trying to set up my Time Capsule in my new home. It was blinking amber and I couldn't get it to set up for a WiFi network. I unplugged everything, reset both the modem and the Time Capsule, stood on one leg, etc. Now I can't even get AU to recognize any configured Airport Base Station AND I have no internet connection at all if I plug the Ethernet cord into the Time Capsule (and yes, I plugged the Time Capsule cord into my iMac). Now the only way I can get an internet connection is to plug the Ethernet cord directly into the iMac, which, of course, makes it **** impossible to set up a Wifi network in my house.

Sigh.

I am sure I followed the setup directions exactly. Or at least I think I did!

Help?

What OS and version airport utility are you running.. the v6 in Lion and Mountain Lion is rubbish.

Do a manual setup using v5 utilty.. plug the TC directly into a Mac with no other connection.

If you have the toy version OS.. ML here is how to get the tool version AU to install.

How to load 5.6 into ML.

1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.

2. Download and install unpkg.

http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.

You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

The AU is version 6.1. I don't understand the "toyland" and "plastic hammer" you speak of.

It is a tool.. that is like a kiddies toy.. it proclaims it can do utilities.. but is so lacking in functionaity that it fails to warrant tool status.. so it is kiddies hammer.. it looks like a hammer.. other than being bright yellow.. you can hammer plastic nails or your siblings with it.. but for driving real nails, it is useless.

I didn't quite finish the last bit.

In finder open to the desktop.

The airport utility was loaded into the directory.. I did it twice to show you how.

So now you have airport utility 5.6.. a tool. not a toy.
