Comic Life app closes immediately after launch

I downloaded Comic Life but upon launching, the app immediately closes by itself. This happens with the latest (v1.2.5) and the previous version.

Has anyone had the same problem?

I have repaired permissions before and after installation. I have even tried it without the iSight detached. Same problem.

Besides iSight, I have installed Evocam (working with the iSight camera). I also have an external TV tuner installed (myTV/X) but it was not on when I installed Comic Life.

Thanks for any help!

Have you read the FAQ on the ComicLife website, Yong.

Q. Why does Comic Life freeze on launch?
A. There are two possible causes for this:

A1. Comic Life checks for newer versions on launch and if the computer is connected to a network but not the Internet it will pause for a few minutes until the attempt to connect times out and returns. You can disable the check in the Preferences to prevent this from happening everytime you start Comic Life.

A2. Comic Life thinks there is a video capture device connected when there isn't. It tries to grab a video frame and freezes because there's nothing to grab. This is caused a particular QuickTime component called "Scalar Microscope USB Component" in the /Library/Components folder. Removing this component should allow Comic Life to start up as expected.

So it looks as if you will have to remove Scalar Microscope USB Component if you have it.

Cheers

Rod:

1) Thanks for your response
2) I have contacted Plasq and they couldn't help -- yet
3) I checked and there was only such component: an old Logitech camera qtx file that I then trashed. But after repairing permissions and re-starting and re-installing Comic Life the app still quit instantly after launch
4) Do I need to do something to iSight camera to allow Comic Life to launch and stay open? It just seems weird that the Comic Life app is so sensitive

Thanks and regards.
