Connecting MacBook Pro to an Emerson TV

I am having trouble connecting my MacBook Pro to my Emerson TV. I plugged in another MacBook Pro, and it connected to the TV with no problems, but when my MacBook Pro is connected, nothing shows up on the TV screen. The MacBook screen goes blue for a few seconds when the cables are initially plugged in, but when the screen comes back up on the computer, there is nothing on the TV. I compared the display settings with the MacBook the successfully connects to the TV, and still nothing works. Are there other things that I should adjust to get my computer to connect to the TV? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
