2012 27" iMac - inconsistent white color on bottom half

Noticing an issue with my brand new 2012 Core i7 27" iMac.

The top half of the screen - whites seem white, white balance seems good.

The bottom half of the screen is a different story. At about half way down the screen, the whites become a yellowish gray and it looks like the screen has been in a smoker's house. That's a bit of a colorful analogy but the screen seems gray and dingy.

Adjusting the tilt seems to have a marginal impact but the overall impression of bottom-half dinginess remains.

Not sure what's going on -- anyone else have this?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 24 GB RAM, i7 @ 3.4 GHz, 3TB Fusion

When the last generation iMac came out in 2009 there were huge issues the screens being yellow or greyish at the bottom half. On the new ones although the screen is laminated to the glass its the same screen tech from 2009 through to the last 2011 iMacs. There is a test you can try, if you are not happy send it back, my 2011 iMac is not bad but the 2009 one I had was very discolored the bottom of the screen looked dirty yellow. Try the test at the link below and see how it looks then. If you are unhappy go to a store look at other 2012 iMacs to see if they are better, if so ask for a replacement. Maybe try taking a picture of a good one to show the comparison with yours screen so they can clearly see the issue.

I've just returned a brand new imac 27" for the same reason, bottom quarter of screen has yellow tint. Problem is that I have to wait several days to get a replacement, so for now I'm back to using my trusty 2006 Macbook Pro linked to a 2007 23" Cinema Display....great machine, but a tad slow running CS6.

It's sort of good to know that I'm not the only one with the yelow tint problem, but hope that the replacement is upto the quality of my old Cinema Display... fantastic monitor, but now has image retention problems due to age.

Does anyone think that the short supply of 27" iMacs is due to problems with build quality?

It is so ANNOYING - Exactly the same with my new 27" iMac. Incredible fast machine, absolutely quiet - almost perfect. But the display is the worst thing I've ever seen!!! Uneven illumination / yellow gradient down / right side is much darker than the left. Photoshop makes absolutley no sense to be used on this computer! Even the imacs exposed in stores suffer from poor panels! For testing: simply select as wallpaper a neutral gray.
