imac late 2009 OS X Lion 10.7.5 FaceTime audio microphone issue. they CAN'T hear me but i can hear them. YES when i record a regular video there is sound. WHAT is the problem?

HI,
In FaceTime have you selected the MIc ?
Have you set up the Same Mic in System Preferences > Sound > Input ?
Also in Applications/Utilities open the MIDI Set up item and check the Input format for your Mic.
It should be 41000 or the 480000 setting.
