Creating partitions on brand new macbook pro

Hi guys,

I've just bought a new 15 inch macbook pro. I want to create 2 additional partitions.

Do you recommend that I:

1) Reformat the whole computer and create 3 partitons, i.e. delete the current one partition, create 3 partitions and instal OSX ML into the main partition; or

2) Go into Disk Utility and create the partitions (when my mac OS is running!) ?

Would there be any inefficiencies with step 2? Thanks in advance!

I might be missing something, but when I open Disk Utility with the OS running, I do not see an option to partition.

Try booting into the Recovery mode (command - R) and run Disk Utility there. You should be able to partition.

I agree with Niel that there is no reason to erase and reload the OS that currently exists, unless for some reason you like installing system software. 🙂 If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
