Malware?

I haven't been able to reach my desktop in a week. My Imac Snow Leopard won't recognized my password. What can be done?

All of my settings for browsers, viruses, and other system related applications are set for automatic updates. So, I don't understand?

iMac (20-inch Late 2006), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Whatever the problem is, it's not malware. But it's hard to say more than that without more details. What specifically happens? Does it boot just fine but won't recognize your login password? If that's all it is, is your caps lock key down? Or might someone with physical access to your machine have decided to reset the password to get access to something? Try resetting it yourself:

If none of that is correct, you'll need to post more details.
