i have an older ipod touch (4th gen?) and want to export all music directly to my new mac. the old macbook pro it was originally synced with has died. We have been using time machine to externally backup both computers prior to the death of the laptop. I just dont see how to do it through itunes without itunes "replacing" the library, also called deleting. 😕

The old computer isnt able to be started.
You can transfer your music by first authorizing your computer and then transferring all your purchases from your iPod Touch. Check this article :

On the new iMac launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
For your iTunes purchases ...
Connect the iPod.
From the menu bar again, click File > Transfer Purchases From ..
For non iTunes purchases you may need a utility.
It's a really handy way to transfer music from iPod to Computer.
