For a long time now it turns on with chime, starts the clicking and than shows folder
Every time for about 7 months. I don't know what to do, I don't have any discs for it ive had the iMac for 7-8 years
Is there anything to do. And if I take it to Genius Bar do I get charged for the appointment?

Try booting into single user mode. Use this artilce -
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417. and follow the instructions in the area that is entitled "use fsck if necessary".
To get to single user mode it says press apple key and... I have a reg keyboard my apple one broke is this the only way to complete this action?
This key is also referred to as the "command" key, or on a windows keyboard, it is the one with the "windows" logo on it
So tried it does not work screen stays white and does nothing but makes click sound. When I let go after 20 sec of holding keys it shows the folder with q mark immediately
As you can not log into single user mode to run fsck, you will likely want to take the computer into your local apple store. If the computer is outside of it's warrenty there may be a charge for assistance
The folder with the question mark means that the computer cannot find an operating system to boot. The clicking sound you hear USUALLY means a bad hard drive. If your hard drive is damaged or failed, there is usually no way to boot from it. Someone with the correct tools and software may be able to salvage the data on the hard drive, best case. At the very least, you will have to replace the hard drive. I would recommend and expert in any case. Good luck. Hopefully, you had all of your important things backed up.
