A Time Capsule is a combination of an Apple Extreme Base Station router and hard disk drive with a network connection implementation. These are often referred to as Network Attachable Storage (NAS) devices.

The Time Capsule makes it possible for you to have disk drive attached to your network so you can backup your computers either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable. They are designed to be easily configured for backups through OS X's Time Machine backup utility.
