The latest update for the 3rd generation iPod touch is iOS 5.1.1, and Apple won't release more updates for that device

Yep sorry. Ios 5.1.1 is the latest for the 3rd gen.
will the device ultimately stop working such as getting on internet? What can I expect in the future with it?

Everything will work fine except you cant download later versions of ios. But most apps support ios 5 or later.
As Csience1 said, you can use the device without any problem, but you won't be able to download applications that requires iOS 6 or newer

Thank you very much. I'm having a few problems with the new Itunes?? Do you help with that too. I'm new to these forums and people get iritated with me because I'm not knowledgeable of how they work and I'm too long winded!
We can help you, but you have to create a new thread on iTunes for Windows forum or iTunes for Mac, depending if you are using a PC or a Mac
Thats why were here everyone has a problem with tech once in a while. And don't get irritated. We take our time.

By taking our time i meant by we help users like us solve problems. With their devices. And just like mende1 said create a new thread.
When Itunes recently updated with the new interface, all of my songs are duplicated in my library. Some of them 3 times. There used to be on the new Itunes under the menu tab I believe where you could click on "clean up duplicates" but it's not there anymore. I had asked the question but one of the techs told me to just go to the itunes help. I did that but am still unable to fix problem.
Ok, I'll create a new thread. Not quite sure how to do but we'll see. Told you I'm not to bad with a computer but completely new to these forums
