Mountain Lion Server?

I just updated my iMac with the Server download from the APP Store. I've never set up a server before and I would like to move my music and movie collection onto an external HDD (iTunes & iPhoto Collection). My wife's MBP HDD is completely used up by her photo's and music and I would like for her to be able to clean off some space by moving everything to my external drive that is connected to my iMac server. I was curious on 1) how to do this and 2) how can I set my iPad, and Macbook Pro to be able to access this?

If any of you know of a website that I could look at to set up the Server in order to do this and other features down the road, that would be great.

Thanks

No experience with servers, however, some alternatives to consider below.

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.

The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.

Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

Another option:

I already downloaded the Server software from the APP store and I have a 3TB external HDD, so I'm going to go that route.

I finally got my MBP to connect and start a Time Machine Back-up so that is good. Now I'm trying to move my massive iTunes to my external HDD so I can free up space on my iMac and my MBP. So I will check back in once I get that moved and see if I can sync my iTunes up via the external drive. Once that is done I will try to do the same with my iPad, iPhones and ipod touch.

Anybody have any other locations let me know.

Thanks,

T
