My iPad mini will not work with headphones. It worked once and now the sound still comes out of the speaker when the headphones are plugged in. What am I missing to make them work?

if the sound is still coming out of the speaker, it's not recognizing that the headphones are plugged in. Make sure they're plugged all the way in. There may be a bit of lint or something pushed down into the headphone jack that keeps them from going all the way in, use a flashlight and see if you can see anything...
