iMac Memory does not work?

iMac (Mid 2007) Removed the original IGB Ram replaced with 2 new PNY DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz Memory. iMac runs but screen is blank and no start up sound of any kind. Held down the start button, machine stopped. Removed new ram, installed old 1GB ram and machine works normally. Tried with only one 2GB Memory and got same result. What did I do wrong??
