mbp990 and corsair 2x4gb ( CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7 )

I own mbp990 and want to upgrade the RAM. I bought corsair 2x4gb ( CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7 ). When I try to turn it on it beeps 3 times. Then I'll try to swap the RAM again with the old one it boots up fine. Anything wrong with my new RAM?

Yes - three beeps means that the RAM is not compatible with your machine, or that one or both of the modules are 'bad'.

Not sure what a "mbp990" really is - when you go under the Apple Menua to About This Mac and then click on More Info what model is displayed (15" late 2011, for example)?

Need a little more info on the RAM, too - part model doesn't really help.

That Corsair p/n indicates 1067MHz RAM, suitable only for 2010-model Macs. Previous models used 667MHz speed, 2011 models 1333MHz and 2012 models 1600MHz.

If the speed is right for your model, there may be dirt or debris inside the "comb" where the RAM stick goes in: inspect with a strong light and magnifying glass and carefully brush anything in there out. Use a soft bristle brush or compressed air can and be very careful. If you go postal there, the logic board will be toast and you royally screwwd.

Hello, I just ran into this problem with these modules for my iMac 27" mid-2009 and maybe this could be the issue with yours.

Corsair support said CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7 comes in two configurations, one of which is the older kind: the ones that have 8 chips on each side (256x8), and the newer config ones with 4 chips on each side (512x8). The 512x8 config is too high-density for this model of iMac. The "8 chips on each side" ones are the ones I need. Corsair said they'd exchange these through RMA (Express RMA,they'd ship out the modules before they get mine back from me). If you haven't called them already, Corsair's support # is 888-222-4346.

Hope this helps =)
