Do I need a screen protector for my New iPad with retina display?

For normal older kid and adult use, probably no. If you let small kids use it you never know what they might drag across the screen, so a screen protector might be useful.

Providing its of a good quality i would leave it on.

The amount of people ive come across both with phones and tablets how have put a small scratch on the screen and to my suprise they have done it using a good quality cleaning cloth that has had a small speck of grit or something like that have left them with a small scratch.

So I just got my first ever iPad (4th gen) about 4 days ago. I am waitng on a case and have been looking into a screen protector, debating this same question on quality. I have a 3 year old and he is dying to play with it. In the meantime I cannot stress how careful I have been, as Im sure you all know what Im talking about. Last night I was using it on my lap and my shirt tugged it off, causing me to grab it before it fell. Of course the longest, sharpest nail, caught it for me. Obviously I freak out and hurry to clean the screen to see for damage. I see there is a huge line where my nail caught it, but upon cleaning was no longer there. This nail was sharper than any key I own! So I guess what im going to do is get a complete cover for use with my 3 year old and just a basic one when I use it. Good job apple!

Why chance it? It's not like they are that expensive. How much would a scratched screen cost to repair? I use the Moshi iVisor and absolutly love it. Once it's on you can barely tell.
