Short text files with the title 'DS store' periodically appear in my documents folder. Can someone explain what these are and whether they are important?
I have deleted some in the past and wonder if I am doing the right thing!

_DS.Store is a OS X temporary file. This file is hidden. If you see it, maybe you have set up Finder to show all files. Open Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE && killall Finder
Finally, this file should be hidden. You can delete that file, but it will reappear
