Suddenly can't connect iPad 3 to Xfinity Gateway

We just had Xfinity service installed last night. First wireless device I tried to connect to gateway was my iPad 3 (iOS 6.0.1). After entering security key, it immediately connected, and all was well. Then, this morning when I turned on iPad, it connected for a moment, then dropped. When I tried to join the network, it kept throwing the "can't connect" error. I forgot the network, and tried to rejoin. This worked -- that is, it is showing the iPad connected -- but can't go anywhere on the Web (after trying to go to any URL, it time outs after a minute or so).

However, I CAN connect to the Xfinity gateway admin page through my iPad, so I'm assuming this is ruling out wireless (hardware) problems with my iPad. I can also connect to the gateway/browse the Web with my Windows laptops. Strangely, when I look at "Connected Devices" on the gateway admin, it is not showing my iPad as a connected device, even though I'm viewing the admin page on the iPad!

Other things I've tried:

- I've tried resetting the networking connections on the iPad

- I've tried turning off all network security on the Xfininity gateway

- In addition to turning off all network security, I've tried a variety of different channel/security mode configs on the gateway

- I've done a hard reset of the iPad

- I tried changing the HTTP Proxy setting to "Auto" (read that somewhere else -- didn't work)

Other details:

- When I look at the details for the network on the iPad, it is showing an IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS and Search Domains. Again, though, I can't go anywhere on the Web

I am beyond frustrated, because everything was working fine last night. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, although they said that since I had general connectivity and was able to connect through other devices, they were going to charge me $80 to try and troubleshoot it. I asked them to describe the type of support, and they were giving me stuff like, "We'll help you understand your wireless router...", I decided I probably knew as much/if not more than them (not to sound egotistical here, but...I just got a bad feeling I'd be blowing $80). The one thing I haven't tried, now that I think of it ⚠, is restarting the gateway, but I'm paranoid given it is the weekend, and I might lose all connectivity.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

• Launch Settings app

• Tap on Wi-Fi

• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

SOLVED PROBLEM! :-)

First, thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my original question -- really, really appreciate it.

After digging through more general support forums on the Web, I came across a posting from someone having a similar problem. Apparently, for some uknown reason, their iPad mysteriously was added to the list of blocked devices under the Xfininty gateway parental controls. I logged in to the gateway admin page and, sure enough, under the blocked devices, was my iPad. How it got there (and how it got there overnight, by itself!) is a mystery, but removing it solved my problem.

I have a bad feeling I'm going to run in to many of these same issues with Comcast, but given AT&T could never get UVerse to work (a whole other story...) Comcast is my only option.

Again, thanks to all for your help!

I have had problems with connection to my arris xfinity router for several weeks. I tried all the fixes and finally have had some luck. I went on the xfinity site and had a live chat with a technician. After providing my serial number and other info, he guided me through an edit for the router. I reset it and he changed the channel to 11. So far all is good, no other problems. Hope this helps
