how do I run windows with Boot Camp

Hi

My wife needs to use software which is only made for PC. How do I set up Boot Camp to work and where do I get a copy of Windows (and what version do I need as know nothing about PC based software/ systems)?

Thanks

Consider using Windows in a virtual machine instead of Boot Camp (unless high performance is required), simpler and much less room for error.

VirtualBox is free and will run all versions of Windows from XP onwards.

You will need to purchase Windows, I suggest Windows 7 Home (System Builder) expect to pay $100 approx (Amazon)

You can install Windows in one of two ways, using Boot Camp or using a virtual machine (VM)

Using Boot Camp you can divide your hard drive and set part of it for use by Windows, then install Windows etc and use it. The advantage is normal Windows performance, the disadvantage is that you must exit OSX and reboot into Windows when required.

Using a VM you install Windows into a 'fake' environment created by the VM for use by Windows, the main advantage is the ability to use both Mac and Windows simultaneously, the disadvantage is that Windows will run a little slower, which may or may not matter.

Choose a method and we'll go on.
