How to modify song names on itunes 11?

I have some downloaded music on my itunes and i can't figure out how to change the name and album of the song. I knew how to do it on the old itunes but it doesn't work the same on itunes 11. When I looked on the apple website before it said to select on the song and click enter to edit but that just made the song play. When i go to get info for the song it is greyed out. Is the any other way to do it. When transfering my music to my knew computer it already deleted like 200 of my songs and i'm trying to get some of them back. thank you.

Is there an exclamation point next to the song title? If so iTunes has lost track of where the song is. You need to delete the title from iTunes. Don't let it move the song to the recycle bin, just remove it from iTunes.

Search for the song so that iTunes can add it back to your library.

If this is happening to all your songs you might re-download and reinstall iTunes. Right clicking on the song title and clicking on Get Info (Like mattOmattic says) should bring up the information box for the song where you can edit all the fields on the song title line and set it up how you want.

I have read numerous posts on this that all seem to fail. So I was determined to fix it myself. Here's what you do:

1- right click on the folder containing all of your music

2- go to properties

3- click the security tab in the properties window

4- Scroll down and highlight the user or user group you want to allow permision

5- in the bottom box check "Full Control"

6- click Apply

You're done. Now you're entire music library will be modifiable. Names , genre etc.

I have copied original music from a CD, and it always shows up as "track 01, track 02", etc. I just tried right clicking on the "track 01", go to "get info", and I was able to type in the name of the song and the artist. When I synced to my iPhone, it worked! The new name is in my song list and the artist is listed, too. Hope this helps.

Here is the way I did it without changing the properties on all my music:

Right-click on individual song > choose Get Info

In the Get Info window > choose the Info Tab. This will show you the name, artist, etc

Type in the information you want.

An easy way to get to the Info is also just to enter CMD-i (on a Mac or CNTL-i on a PC) on a song
