when i go to delete apple file folder, which is one of the steps given, it says i need permission and access denied. help?

in the process of uninstalling one step in the section about verifiying the uninstallation, it says delete apple file, if it exists. On my laptop, it does exist, and when i go to delete it it says - access denied, and i need permision. this is fustrating because without doing this i dont want to carry on the process of un and reinstalling itunes. i have tried this several times. also im runnig the latest software (ios 6.0.1) and most recent itunes(11.01) thanks.
