I am owner of a MacBook Air and OSX Ver. 10.7.5. Since some month, and without doing anything conciously, the illumination of the keyboard has gone out. It is not that the light does not work, because when pushng F6 key, it appears as a forbidden function. How can I activate again the keyboard illumination?

Sounds like you have a hardware problem that can only be fixed by taking the system to an Apple G Bar.
So make an Appointment ASAP, before your warranty runs out.

Accoring to this article, one feature of the glowing keys is that the feature will automatically disable itself if the OS decides that there is enough ambient light to see the keys without ellumination.
Right buy even when and if that happens there would not be Circle W/ Slash (Prohibitive, Forbidden) sign for that function.

Does it take up the whole rectangle? or is it under it? i tested it on my machine with a high-powered flashlight... it did lock the keyboard illumination. It showed me the keyboard icon, with the level set at 0, then it had a prohibitive/forbitten symbol underneath that. I think a screenshot of his problem is in order.
