MBP Running slow when its on batteries .. working fine when plugged to the charger ?!

Hi there !
I noticed that my MBP is running very slow when it's on batteries.. but when plugged to charger it works fine..

Is the battery drained already ? I purchased it OCT 2011 but has been using it lightly for almost 5 months ..

P.s : I cleaned it up coz I thought its a space or piled files issues but it didn't work

Thank u in advance 🙂

GENIUS!!!!!!!! THIS WORKED FOR ME !!!!!

😁🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Try this at your own risk - It Worked for me after a complete system reload which didn't make any difference.

I will take no responsibility for any damage or loss caused to you or your property. Do it of your own free will and at your own risk.

I did this on a MacBook Pro Early 2011 - 2.7 GHz Intel Core i17

System Version 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

Running well on mains power but dramatically slowing down when running on battery power

First try this to see if you get the same result I got

Quit all programs

With the mains connected

Open Activity Monitor and click on CPU in the bottom half of the window

Check the CPU Usage graph - It will probably be minimal - Under 1%

Now disconnect the mains and watch the graph shoot up and CPU activity around 80%

Here's what I did...

Firstly, you’re going to need the model identifier of your Mac,

go to the Apple in the menu bar and select "About this Mac"

When the About this Mac pane appears click on "More info…"

Select Hardware in the left panel

In the right panel make a note of the Model Identifier e.g. "MacBookPro8,1"

Now open a finder window and click on Macintosh HD

Click on system >Library > Extentions

Find the kext file called IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext

Right click it and Show Package Contents

Click on contents

Click on Resources

Click on PlugIns

Right Click on ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext

Right click it and Show Package Contents

Click on contents

Click on Resources

Find the the plist file that corresponds to your Model Identifier e.g. "MacBookPro8,1.plist"

Move it to the trash and delete it

Restart and everything should now be fine.

Thanks a lot Tony, I had the same problem and now it seems fixed!

The slowness problem occurred to my MBP after a milk leakage (!!) that blocked for a week the mac... It was died, and to restore it I put it opened in a box with 1 kg of rice, and after a week it started again to work properly, except for the slowiness when unplugged from the main. Now I deleted the plist file "MacBookPro7,1.plist" following your suggestion, and it works fine... thanks again!!!!

My doubt is: what could happen now, without that system file? I am taking some risks (for example: some sensors are not checking the temperature of the battery, and it is no more under control)?

Do you know what exactly should that file do?

I looked for this info on the web, but without any result...

Thanks in advance for your reply!

see i already ried this a few months ago, in june of 2013, i had water spill on mac, which burned few components and i got them repaired by a service centre(not apple). it costed me around 5k INR. but after that repair my mac was slow without charger n i saw this thread n it worked fine except sometimes it used to shut off over heating if i played some heavy game or used photoshop n agter effects for a long long time. but it would restart again but by december one day my mac completely shut off...then i took it to a mac service centre..there they checked it n said the logic board stopped working n i had to get a new one for 35K INR. so i think u better get ur mac to service at a service centre recognized by apple for any damages and extend warranty for atleast 1 year just in case **** happens.

Seriously, thank you. I took my computer in to Apple twice and called in to Apple support with no luck. They wanted to erase my hard drive and do a clean install of Yosemite. I chose not to let them because I have some good software, once deleted, I can't replace for free, like Office and Photoshop.

After reading your post and seeing all of the thank you replies to your post, I knew there was a chance.

Sure enough, after deleting the computer identifier in my system library, my computer works great!

Before deleting the file, when I unplugged my laptop, my CPU percentage would go up from 3% to 35% and the trackpad would skip around and become unusable. The computer acted like it was running on half power.

After deleting the identifier, my CPU usage went down to normal and my computer works as expected. I'm using it on battery right now.

Thank you very much.

Dear Tony,

My MBP (2012) slowed down abruptly and after trying a few fixes (That dint work) I downloaded and installed Yosemite but in vain.

It made things worse actually and I worked under 'safe mode' for a few days before I reinstalled Yosemite.

Then I realized that my MBP would work fine when plugged in.

Called apple support and played 21 questions but no improvement.

Was a little apprehensive when I came across your post given the 'disclaimer'

I finally mustered up the courage to copy the kext file on to my desktop and then deleted it from the original location, emptied the trash and restarted my computer.

VOILA !

A million thanks to you sir !

Thank you for your reply. I had this problem when I was on 10.7.6 but when I upgraded MacBookPro8,1 to Yosemite I tried what worked before (removing the kext file with the MBP identifier) and ....the hierarchy down to the kext file is no longer there or not where it was before under Extensions.or under a different name.....

Yosemite works blazing fine when on the charger but wheels and jumping cursor make working impossible when a healthy fully charged battery...

Needless to say your suggested fix worked on 10.7.6 just great....
