I tried using the guide provided but it still does not show IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext under extensions. Does anybody know what I can do to be able to view that extension? Thanks in advance.

This worked for me while I was using OS Yosemite. I just finished my upgrade to El Captan and I get the same problem. I ran through the same steps but I cannot delete the "Macbookpro8_1.plist" file. I will get a notification saying that the OS X needs it. Does anyone know how to fix it now?

Hi, I got the similar problem and try to back up and delete the plist file associated with my model there. However, it won't allowed me to remove this file even though my account has admin privilege. Can you advise how did you get permission to remove yours under that extension folder?

Firstly, turn off System Integrity Protection in El Capitan

1. Click the  menu.
2. Select Restart...
3. Hold down command-R to boot into the Recovery System.
4. Click the Utilities menu and select Terminal.
5. Type csrutil disable and press return.
6. Close the Terminal app.
7. Click the  menu and select Restart....

Thanks for your quick reply! However, I tried that under terminal, but it said "command not found", I try to search online but have no luck to get answers. Did I miss anything? By the way, the terminal console it gives is "terminal - bash - 80x24", and it seemed no any command can be executed here. Any ideas?
