Just bought a map, started the startup process, left the computer for a while and is asking for a password after screensaver.
I know my appleID, my password and my username. Is this a different password because my apple ID password isn't working and I don't know what else to try!

This is the password you specified when you set up the computer. I believe the term was "Administrator password"

What were going to try is a terminal password reset. If you can have this window open in another computer or something, that would help you out greatly.

What's the option key please?
Ok googles option key. It's giving me the option between macintosh hd and recovery 10-8-2.
The option key is the left alt key between Control and Command on US keyboards.
